Dear Member

I hope that most of you have been able to get some fishing this season and have maybe even caught some fish! The weather so far has not been conducive to outdoor pursuits with the torrential rain and high winds but some members have had good catches on the Tay and Braan. Balhomish Loch continues to fish well.

Competitions/Outings

Hello all and as a means of introduction my name is Gerry Rattray , I've taken over the post of Competition Secretary as of the start of 2015 season.
The outings to date have seen a mixture of anglers turning up for the events from very competitive trout anglers to the leisure trout angler. So far we have been to Lake of Menteith, Loch Leven x2, Lintrathen x2, with some great results.
Firstly. I would like to say that if individuals Do Not want to get involved in the competition side of things and just want a day’s fishing that is fine. We should maybe get away from talking about Competitions and start calling them Club Outings. At the end of the day it’s all about Fun and enjoying our fishing. If there are any individuals worried about fishing from a boat there are plenty of club members with vast experience in boat handling who wouldl be willing to pair up and give you some guidance. So  do come along . Remember that the club will pay £10 towards the cost of each boat per outing.
Secondly, if  you are interested in the Competitive side of life and fancy putting your name forward for the Nationals then make yourself known and from the results of all the outings of the season the top two places are eligible to take part.

Thirdly, I would like to organise  a few trout fly fishing outings for the Juniors as they are the next generation in the sport. However ,due to work commitments I have had not had the timeto organise these so will be looking into this for next season.
If anyone has any suggestion for venues next season, or any ideas at all, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
I can be contacted on
gerryrattray@hotmail.com
I look forward to seeing you at the next outing.

Balhomish Loch

As you should be aware, we are now stocking Balhomish with cracking Brown Trout of up to 3.5 lbs being caught with an average size of 2 lb. This is arguably the best stocked Brown Trout loch anywhere. The loch continues to fish very well in all sessions but bookings are still available most of the time. Please take care when returning fish ( using barbless hooks)

River Tay / Stanley Trout Fishings

I would remind members that we do have access to two beats at Stanley(two anglers per beat)- the Pitlochrie and Benchil . Day tickets are available in the Village Shop(formerly Spar) in Birnam and are free for members of DBAA. Day tickets will also be available to visiting anglers at a cost of £10 per day. It should be noted that access to the beats is down a fairly steep slope but there is a definite path alongside the river for each beat.

Safety / Association Insurance

Just a wee reminder that it is The Association`s policy that lifejackets should be worn when fishing both Loch and River. There is a useful leaflet produced by Perth & Kinross Outdoor Access Forum “Perth & Kinross Angling Code” which members are encouraged to peruse.

As is required, DBAA members are covered by the Association’s Insurance Policy for 3rd party Insurance. Personal insurance for loss, injury etc. is the responsibility of individual members.

Wild Fisheries Review

This is now called Wild Fisheries Reform. This continues to be a “work in progress” and is now in the consultation stage prior to implementation. As more definite changes come to light we will keep you informed
